Over $100 million in prizes at the annual Spring Championship of Online Poker
ONCHAN, Isle of Man – May 31, 2019 – PokerStars, the flagship poker brand of The Stars Group, has smashed its own record for the largest ever online poker tournament series. This year’s Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) paid out $105 million, the first-ever online tournament to beat the $100 million milestone.
This year’s SCOOP Main Event awarded over $1 million to ‘Tankanza’ from Italy, an unprecedented achievement after ‘Tankanza’ also took first place in the same event in 2018 for more than $1.1 million.
‘Kepic’ became the latest ‘dare to dream’ candidate, taking home a $50,000 prize in the $215 buy-in NLHE Turbo, having bought-in for just $11.
SCOOP 2019 beat PokerStars’ 2018 record when its annual World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) paid out nearly $100 million and attracted 1.1 million entries. 2019 is shaping up to be a multiple record-breaking year, with the January PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship becoming the biggest $25,000 buy-in live tournament in history. Ramon Colillas, who took first place and over $5 million, had qualified for free as one of 320 Platinum Pass winners and is now one of our very own official PokerStars Ambassadors.
Tournament stats for the SCOOP, which ran from May 12-27:
- 156,000 unique players
- Record-breaking $80 million prize pool guarantee
- Total prize pool $105.4 million
- $15.5 million prizes at the Main Event
- Fatima Moreira de Melo banked $27,066 for fifth in the PKO SCOOP 64-H, for the biggest win of any PokerStars Ambassador this SCOOP
